The seal anchor member (100) includes a first end (110), a second end (120), at least one longitudinal port (130) extending between the two ends (110, 120), and a seal assembly (140) disposed within the at least one longitudinal port (130). The seal assembly (140) can be positioned at any location along the length of the at least one longitudinal port (130). The seal assembly (140) comprises a seal housing (141) which is dimensioned to receive a surgical instrument inserted into the at least one longitudinal port (130) and form a substantially fluid-tight seal therewith. The seal housing (141) may comprise a pivotable member (180) to pivot the surgical instrument inserted therein. The at least one longitudinal port (130) may define two gradually enlarging openings to facilitate the maneuverability of the surgical instrument inserted therein. The at least one longitudinal port (130) may comprise a protective sleeve (150) to protect it from accidental penetration by the surgical instrument.
