1. A product distribution device comprising: a container for holding the product to be dispensed; a dispenser assembly for regulating the release of a product from a container; a plurality of product passages through which the product passes after the dispenser; a flow control means for selectively stopping and starting the product flow through the passages a plurality of flow sensors configured to measure the flow of product through the product passageways, each sensor generating an output signal indicative of the rate of flow of product past the sensor; and a controller configured to receive output signals from sensors to send control signals to a control means for stopping and starting product flow through product passages, the controller further configured to compare the product flow rate through each product passage passage with an expected product flow rate to determine the operational state of the flow control. 2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the sensors detect product flow through only a portion of the cross-sectional area of the product passages. The system of claim 1, wherein the sensors are optical sensors that detect flow through a plurality of sensor channels extending across product passages.
