The specification of the inventionThe invention of Phoenix-7K Total Artificial Heart is fundamentally originated from the initial technology of Phoenix-7 Total Artificial Heart with three essential modifications.The Phoenix-7 Total Artificial Heart was issued a US patent No. 4, 750, 903 on June 14, 1988 to the inventor Dr. Kevin K Cheng (Attachment 1.)The Phoenix-7 Total Artificial Heart, a pneumatic artificial heart, is made of polyurethane rigid outer housing each having a shape of ventricle and its associated auricle. Each of outer housing includes a flexible 3-lobe bladder which is made for expending and collapsing the bladder by centrally actuated. Each housing also is provided with one-way input and one-way output check valve openings for connection, respectively, to the veins and arteries which normally return blood to and convey from the heart.The Phoenix-7 Total Artificial Heart was obviously different from another prototype of total artificial heart, Jarvik-7 Heart which using a bladder type diaphragm that requires a lager chest space, but produces a relatively smaller stroke volume.The Phoenix-7 had implanted in 45 calves in the past and it was proved that the artificial heart was able to perform the function of a natural heart accordingly. On a medical emergency status, the Phoenix-7 hearts were applied for 3 patients with diminishing heart function due to congestive heart failure for prolonging their life. Among them, the 46 years old male who survived on the Phoenix-7 heart for 17 days till successful heart transplantation was performed. This male lives very well and works as normal nowadays.This invention, Phoenix-7K Total Artificial Heart, includes the following three essential modifications:1.
