An endoscope device captures an image of light returning from a subject illuminated by an illumination means by using a CCD equipped with a color filter. When a brightness signal (Y) and color difference signals (R-Y, B-Y), which are image signals generated through a Y/C separation circuit and other circuits, are enhanced in sharpness by an enhancement circuit, enhancement processing characteristics are changed according to observation modes and types of CCDs to reduce false color and color moire.
