The compact motor saw has the motor housing (1) inside the hand grip and with a circular saw blade (3) mounted at the end of the hand grip and driven by an angle drive. The saw blade has a guard (4) on the side facing the hand grip and radial supports (5) against which the branches being cut rest. The radial supports may have elastic mounting. The saw is driven by a compact electric motor or by a compact IC engine. It is operated single handed allowing the user to grip a ladder with the other hand. The entry side of the blade guard (6) also serves as a support for branches etc. A similar saw can be obtained by fitting a conventional angle grinder with a saw blade and guard.
