A plating system is described that uses various configurations of bonefixation implants that are configured to attach toone or more portions of a bone. An exemplary bone fixation implant includes atwo-dimensional structure comprising a bone-engagingsurface and a tissue-engaging surface. A plurality of openings is defined inthe two-dimensional structure, and arranged across a lengthand a width of the bone fixation implant. At least some of openings areconfigured to receive an attachment member for securing thebone fixation implant to an underlying bone structure. The tissue-engagingsurface is configured to engage an overlying tissue structurefor encouraging incorporation of the tissue structure into the bone fixationimplant to promote stabilization of the underlying bonestructure during healing. In certain embodiments, at least 50% of the areadefined by and/or between the length and the width of thetwo-dimensional structure is an opening.
