PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow maintenance even in a state where a requirement of a safety mechanism is not satisfied, in an apparatus performing photoacoustic photographing.SOLUTION: This subject information acquisition apparatus includes: a light source irradiating light to a subject by an optical device a probe receiving an acoustic wave generated from the subject irradiated with the light a movement means moving the optical device and the probe along the subject a safety mechanism prohibiting the light irradiation when a safety requirement of the light source is not satisfied, and prohibiting the movement when a safety requirement of the movement means is not satisfied and a control means. The subject information acquisition apparatus includes a normal mode and a maintenance mode.
