The present invention relates to morphinans selected from nalmefene and naltrexone and their related derivatives of formula (I), and pharmaceutical formulations thereof, for use in the prevention and treatment of a liver disease selected from the group consisting of NASH (non-alcoholic steatohepatitis), NAFLD (non-alcoholic fatty liver disease) and ASH (alcoholic steatohepatitis).
