摘要:
A mixer sheath 200 for an intravascular catheter has a wall 210 patterned with lines of weakness 212 to cause buckling under longitudinal compression to form a blood mixing fin 211 extending radially outwards. The lines may be zigzag cuts extending through the full thickness of the tube wall and forming diametrically opposed mixing fins. The zigzag slits may be curved, to give fins with a curved outer edge, and vary in thickness (figure 4B). There may be longitudinally successive lines of weakness, with the thickness of the tube becoming successively greater so that the mixing fins form in sequence. The thickness of the sheath is no more than 0.5 mm and it may be formed from PEEK with one or more blood inlet ports. The lines of weakness may be formed using laser micromachining. An outer sheath 230 may enclose the mixer sheath. The fins mix blood from across the section of the vessel, for sampling by a blood sampling catheter inside the sheath.
