PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for estimating seed purity by bulk method in detecting the presence/absence of the fertility restorative gene( Rf-1 gene ) for the BT-type male sterile cytoplasm utilized in growing hybrid rice. SOLUTION: The method for discriminating the presence/absence of the Rf-1 gene involves developing a marker specific to the Rf-1 gene and another marker specific to a rf-1 gene by focusing on a base sequence close to the Rf-1 locus, in view of the fact that the BT-type male sterile cytoplasm and the Rf-1 gene therefor have been utilized in growing hybrid rice.
