PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow speedy measurement even when ultrasonic wave attenuates before reaching the retina of the eye.

SOLUTION: An ophthalmic ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus measures the axial length of the eye and the length of various tissues of the anterior eye on the basis of the reflection echo from the eye tissue received by an ultrasonic probe in contact with the cornea of the eye to be examined. The ophthalmic ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus has a determination means for sorting reflection echo of the anterior eye side and reflection echo of the retina side and for judging whether the intensities of the reflection echoes of the anterior eye side and the retina side satisfy predetermined standards respectively, and an adjusting means for automatically increasing a gain of the retina side reflection echo so that the intensity of the retina side reflection echo satisfies the predetermined standard or for automatically decreasing a threshold for judging a retinal echo which are used when the intensity of the anterior eye side reflection echo satisfies the predetermined standard and when the intensity of the retina side reflection echo does not satisfy the predetermined standard.
