The adjacent housing has a plenum chamber formed in the housing, the plenum chamber communicating with at least one nozzle. The nozzle preferably directs the pressurized fluid axially from the plenum chamber to the central bore of the surgical access device to provide a uniform gas around the access device inserted in the access device and to reduce the loss of pressurized fluid in the body cavity of the housing .
