An aspect provides a method of preparing a pet food product, comprising: mixing heated water with a highly soluble aromatic composition to form a heated aromatic mixture adding the heated aromatic mixture to a container comprising a composition comprising a grain based product and a dry pet food palatant and forming a final pet food product via mixing the composition comprising a grain based product and a dry pet food palatant and the heated aromatic mixture.
