The present invention provides a two-stage locating device and the method thereof. The first stage preliminary locating device finds the roughly area of the locking hole encircled with the magnetic material on the intramedullary nail. The second stage pinpoint device has a plurality of targeting devices and comprises a transparent plate with a plurality of alignment lines. According to the deviations between each targeting devices and alignment lines, the direction of the second stage pinpoint device for further adjusting can be determined. The present invention is able to determine the position and the orientation of the locking hole on the intramedullary nail quickly and precisely to shorten the time-consuming to implant the intramedullary nail. Furthermore, the present invention can combine the conductive circuit to connect the alarm device.
