An improved composition and method for reducing the formation of oxygen radicals in mononuclear phagocytes is disclosed. Also provided is a method of protecting NK cells from oxidative damage inflicted by radicals produced by mononuclear phagocytes by administering a histamine metabolite, N-alpha-methylhistamine dihydrochloride. Use of N-alpha-methylhistamine dihydrochloride for enhancing the NK cell response to IL-2 is likewise detailed.La présente invention concerne une composition et un procédé améliorés permettant dinhiber la formation de radicaux oxygénés dans des phagocytes mononucléaires. Linvention concerne également un procédé de protection des cellules NK contre les lésions oxydatives provoquées par des radicaux produits par des phagocytes mononucléaires, procédé faisant appel à ladministration dun métabolite de lhistamine, le dihydrochlorure de N-alpha-méthylhistamine. Linvention concerne, en outre, lutilisation de dihydrochlorure de N-alpha-méthylhistamine en vue du renforcement de la production de cellules NK sous leffet de lIL-2.
