PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drainage system including a positive displacement pump that can function to actively drain cerebral spinal fluid from the ventricles of the brain of a patient.SOLUTION: The drainage system 10 includes a ventricular catheter 16, a positive displacement pump 22 that is connected to the ventricular catheter, a drainage catheter 20 that is connected to the ventricular catheter and establishes a drainage passage, a monitoring device that is configured to monitor at least one control factor, and a controller 28 that is connected to the monitoring device and the positive displacement pump and controls the positive displacement pump. The at least one control factor includes the degree of drainage of the ventricle(s).
