PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop a means for reducing or eliminating tackiness by sebum or perspiration which an insect pest repellent composition for human bodies or animals has and which brings about discomfort with the passage of time during use. SOLUTION: The insect pest repellent composition comprises an insect pest repellent, inorganic silicic acid porous fine particles and/or ion exchange particles. In the composition, an ion exchange characteristic (t) represented by the general formula t=A-B (wherein A is a pH value of 10 wt.% dispersion to a refined water of the composition; B is a pH value of 10 wt.% dispersion to 1 wt.% saline solution of the composition) is not smaller than 1.5.
