A medical implant comprising a surface or film comprising a plurality of nanotubes having diameters of about 3 nm to about 300 nm and in a density greater than 10,000,000 nanotubes per square centimeter, wherein said nanotubes comprise a bioactive elution agent to the surrounding tissue by placement in a subject, and wherein said plurality of nanotubes further comprises a closure film that erodes providing a delayed elution of the bioactive agent.Un implante médico que comprende una superficie o película que comprende una pluralidad de nanotubos que tienen diámetros de aproximadamente 3 nm a aproximadamente 300 nm y en una densidad mayor que 10.000.000 de nanotubos por centímetro cuadrado, donde dichos nanotubos comprenden un agente bioactivo de elución al tejido circundante por colocación en un sujeto, y en donde dicha pluralidad de nanotubos comprende además una película de cierre que se erosiona proporcionando una elución retardada del agente bioactivo.
