The present invention relates to pharmaceutical compositions for preventing or treating diabetes mellitus, comprising an extract of centipede grass (Eremochloa ophiuroides) as an active ingredient. The present inventors verified that an extract from centipede grass, a fraction thereof, and an active fraction isolated from the fraction effectively adjusted the blood glucose concentration.
