The present invention provides a sterilizing device having a protection function and a method for protecting the sterilizing device. The sterilizing device having the protection function includes: a pair of electrodes which receives a test voltage to perform electrolysis of water stored in a water tank a current measuring unit which measures a level of test current passing between a pair of electrodes by electrolysis a sterilizing device protecting unit which determines whether to apply a predetermined sterilizing voltage to execute a sterilizing operation based on the level of the measured test current and a power supply unit which applies or does not apply the sterilizing voltage to the electrodes according to the determination result.
