PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radiographic image forming apparatus which effectively reduces power consumption by monitoring the working condition of a system and by changing the working condition of a reader that consumes power the most in accordance with the monitored working condition to a low power consumption condition, that is, a standby condition or a power-off condition.
SOLUTION: A reader control section 80 monitors the working condition of an X-ray source 16, the reader 26 or a battery 27. For example, when such a condition as the X-ray source 16 is not arranged in a photography position, no signal is inputted into the reader 26 for a predetermined time or residual amount of the battery 27 is below a permissible range is detected, the reader control section controls a mode switching circuit 92 to turn the reader 26 into an energy-saving mode.
