A needle guard is disclosed. The needle guard includes a binding plate (46)defining a multi-slot aperture (52)adapted to receive a needle cannula therethrough. The needle guard alsoincludes a biasing member (48) for biasing the needlecannula within the multi-slot aperture, and a sensing arm (50) connected tothe binding plate. The sensing arm is adapted to contacta portion of the needle cannula, and is positionable for restricting movementof the needle cannula. The multi-slot aperture mayinclude a first region having a first dimension, a second region having asecond dimension, and optionally, a third region having athird dimension with the third dimension being smaller than the seconddimension and the second dimension being smaller than thefirst dimension.
