An acute pain medication overuse disorder (such as a medication overuseheadache disorder) can be treated by administration of a botulinum toxin to apatient. A headache can be treated more effectively by co-administration of abotulinum toxin and a triptan drug to a patient and/or the effectiveness of atriptan medication can be increased. The botulinum toxin can be botulinumtoxin type A and the botulinum toxin can be administered to or to the vicinityof where a patient experiences or is predisposed to experience pain or aheadache.
