A Doppler gate is automatically positioned in the spectrum Doppler ultrasound imaging (38). Samples which are obtained for multiple PW Doppler gates are used for B-mode and/or F-mode detection (30, 46) throughout the time without the interleaving of transmissions for a PW Doppler. B-mode and/or F-mode information are used for tracking (38) the gate arrangement.
