To provide a hair treatment agent and a hair treatment method that do not use a reductant or an oxidizing agent that fade a hair color and damage the hair, and overcome the drawbacks of the hair treatment agent containing glyoxylic acid that fades a hair color.SOLUTION: A hair treatment agent contains (a) levulinic acid of 13-30 mass% and (b) glyoxylic acid of 1-2 mass%, with the total content of levulinic acid and glyoxylic acid being 15 mass% or more and the pH ranging from 1.5 to 3.0. A hair treatment method includes the steps of (1) applying the hair treatment agent to hair, (2) letting the hair treated with the hair treatment agent stand for a while so that the hair treatment agent sufficiently permeates the hair, (3) washing the hair with water to rinse the hair treatment agent, and (4) drying the hair and making it straight.SELECTED DRAWING: None【課題】ヘアカラーを退色させると共にダメージを与える還元剤や酸化剤を用いず、さらに、ヘアカラーを退色させるグリオキシル酸を含有する毛髪処理剤の欠点を解消した、毛髪処理剤と毛髪処理方法を提供する。【解決手段】毛髪処理剤が（ａ）レブリン酸を１３～３０質量％と、（ｂ）グリオキシル酸を１～２質量％とを含有し、レブリン酸とグリオキシル酸の含有量の合計が１５質量％以上で、かつ、ｐＨが１．５～３．０の範囲である。また、毛髪処理方法が、（１）当該毛髪処理剤を毛髪に塗布し、（２）塗布した状態で毛髪を放置して毛髪処理剤を毛髪に十分に作用させ、（３）毛髪を水洗して毛髪処理剤を洗い流し、（４）乾燥及び毛髪をストレート状にする工程を含む。【選択図】なし
