The present invention provides a medical laser apparatus comprising: a main body having a laser oscillation unit； a display unit provided at one side of the main body； a handpiece connected to the main body and provided with a laser emission unit guiding an emission direction of laser oscillated by the laser oscillation unit； a sensing unit sensing the direction of the laser emission unit of the handpiece； and a control unit which blocks oscillation of the laser from the main body if the direction of the laser emission unit of the handpiece is determined to face the display unit. The medical laser device and a control method therefor according to the present invention sense a laser incidence position before the laser is emitted and prevent the laser from going to the display unit, thereby enhancing usage stability thereof and reducing damages thereof.본 발명에 따른 의료용 레이저 장치는 레이저 발진부를 가지는 본체, 상기 본체의 일측에 구비되는 디스플레이부, 상기 본체에 연결되고, 상기 레이저 발진부에서 발진한 레이저의 출사 방향을 안내하는 레이저 출사부를 구비하는 핸드피스, 상기 핸드피스의 상기 레이저 출사부 방향을 감지하는 감지부, 상기 핸드피스의 상기 레이저 출사부의 방향이 상기 디스플레이부를 향한다고 판단되면 상기 본체에서 레이저가 발진하는 것을 차단하는 제어부를 구비하는 것으로 이러한 본 발명에 따른 의료용 레이저 장치 및 이를 위한 제어방법은 레이저가 출사되기 전에 레이저의 입사위치를 감지하여 디스플레이부에 레이저가 입사되는 것을 방지하도록 하여 의료용 레이저 장치의 사용 안정성을 향상시키고, 레이저 장치의 손상을 줄일 수 있는 하는 효과가 있다.
