Disclosed are steroid compounds of formula I, salts and N-oxides thereof, and methods for their preparation. The compounds are useful as antiandrogenic compounds and selective androgen receptor modulators. Also disclosed is the use of the compound for treating or reducing the risk of developing prostate cancer, benign prostatic hyperplasia, polycystic ovarian syndrome, acne, seborrhoea, hirsutism, androgenic alopecia, precocious puberty, diseases related to loss of androgenic stimulation, muscle atrophy and weakness, skin atrophy, bone loss, anemia, arteriosclerosis, cardiovascular disease, loss of energy, loss of well-being, type 2 diabetes, or abdominal fat accumulation.
