Disclosed herein is a prosthetic heart valve comprising a frame member 12, and at least two flaps 14a-c attached to said frame member 12 and allowing blood flow in a first direction but restricting blood flow in a second direction opposite to said first direction. The frame member 12 is adapted to acquire a first configuration and a second configuration. The restriction of blood flow when the frame member is in the first configuration is less than when the frame member 12 is in the second configuration. The prosthetic heart valve 10 further comprises means allowing the frame member 12 to gradually or stepwisely change between the first and second configurations after implantation.
