The present invention relates to (especially) oligomer-containing benzamide compounds. The compounds of the present invention exhibit one or more advantages over the corresponding compounds that do not contain oligomers. In one or more embodiments of the present invention, a compound is provided that includes a residue of a benzamide-based compound covalently linked to a water-soluble non-peptide oligomer by a stable or degradable linkage. A “residue” of a benzamide-based compound is modified therapeutically by the presence of one or more bonds that serve to bind (directly or indirectly) one or more water-soluble non-peptide oligomers.
