An electronic cigarette (10) comprises a housing (12) including a battery compartment (40)； a rechargeable battery (18) arranged inside the battery compartment (40), wherein the battery (18) comprises two end surfaces (52) opposed along a central axis (48) and a peripheral surface (44) connecting the end surfaces (52) and wherein battery terminals (54) are arranged at at least one front side (52)； and a holding member (42) biased against the peripheral surface (44) of the battery (18) and adapted to secure the battery (18) inside the battery compartment (40) regardless of its change of size.
