An anti-pecking device for animals, and in particular birds, is provided. The device (1) comprises a member (2) having first and second limbs (4,6) and a link portion (13) interconnecting the first and second limbs (4,6). Each limb (4,6) has a free end adapted to be attached to the beak or mouth of the animal, and at least one of the limbs (4,6) includes a failure region (7,9) adapted to fracture when the limb (4,6) is subjected to a predetermined load. As the animal grows over time the load on the limbs (4,6) will increase, until the load reaches the predetermined value and one or both limbs (4,6) fractures. In this way the device (1) will detach from the animal when it reaches a certain size without the need for manual removal.
