The invention provides a bait station (100) for pest control, comprising: an enclosure defining an access chamber (110) and a bait chamber (112), said access chamber including at least one entry port (114) for permitting entry of a pest into said enclosure, and said bait chamber configured to hold therein a bait product harmful to a pest； a partition section (108) separating said access chamber and said bait chamber, wherein said bait chamber is accessible from said access chamber via an access port (118) formed in said partition section； a closure element (120) associated with said access port and controllable for movement between a first position in which said access port is covered, and in which said bait chamber is concealed from said access chamber, and a second position in which said access port is uncovered； a detector arrangement (126) capable of detecting presence of a pest in said access chamber and operative to output a signal indicative of presence or otherwise of a pest； a controller (136) operative to receive said signal indicative of presence or otherwise of a pest from said detector arrangement and further operative to record a pest activity event upon receipt of a signal indicative of presence of a pest； wherein responsive to occurrence of a number of recorded pest activity events at least equal to a predetermined number, said controller is operative to implement movement of said closure element from said first position to said second position to open said access port between said access chamber and said bait chamber.
