The present invention relates to an ultrasound imaging apparatus and a method for controlling the same, and more particularly, to a technique relating to the display of a gain compensation control means including a time gain compensation (TGC) or a lateral gain compensation (LGC) control means corresponding to the set interested area at the time of setting up the interested area of an ultrasound image. The ultrasound imaging apparatus according to an embodiment comprises: an input part for receiving a command relating to the setting of an interested area of an ultrasound image and a display part including a first area for displaying the ultrasound image and a second area for displaying a gain compensation control means prepared to change the gain compensation value of an ultrasound image. The display part comprises the step of displaying only the gain compensation control means corresponding to an interested area of an ultrasound image input in the second area when a command relating to the setting of an interested area of an ultrasound image displayed in the first area is input.
