This invention relates to a hollow telescoping fishing rod assembly with an inventive mounting block on the handle that aligns a hollow rod with a fishing reel so that the fishing line port of the reel is axially aligned with the opening in the proximal end of the hollow fishing rod. In some embodiments, the mounting block has a hinging mechanism to provide access to the end of the rod.
