PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a novel synthase gene for flower color of Cyclamen persicum which comprises a DNA encoding a Cyclamen persicum chalcone synthase protein containing a specific amino acid sequence, participates in the synthesis of the flower color of Cyclamen persicum and is useful in the development or the like of the breeding of plants having various flower colors or the like. SOLUTION: This synthase gene for flower color of Cyclamen persicum is a novel DNA encoding a Cyclamen persicum chalcone synthase protein containing the amino acid sequence represented by the formula, participates in the synthesis of the flower color of Cyclamen persicum, enables us to regulate an enzyme reaction participating in anthocyanin synthesis in plants and can be utilized in the development or the like of the breeding of plants having various flower colors or the like. This DNA is obtained by extracting mRNA from the petal of Cyclamen persicum being in flower by a conventional method, preparing a cDNA library by the use of this mRNA and then screening out this library by means of plaque hybridization or the like by using a DNA fragment amplified by a PCR reaction, that uses a primer comprising the partial base sequence of gene, as a probe.
