PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the new subject DNA having a specific amino acid sequence, coding for a protein having an activity for transferring glucose to the 3 position of a flavonoid, capable of changing the inbreeding fertility of a plant, useful for producing the seeds of the plant, and giving a stable plant pigment. SOLUTION: A new DNA (fragment) has an amino acid sequence of the formula and codes for a protein having an activity for transferring glucose to the 3 position of a flavonoid. The glycoside of the flavonoid changes the transportation activity of auxin, and is useful for the genetic engineering production of a protein for controlling the elongation of a pollen tube. The gene can change the inbreeding fertility of the plant, and is useful for producing the seeds of the plant, etc. The DNA (fragment) is obtained by separating mRNA from a plant in which the synthesis of flavonoid is induced, producing a cDNA library by the use of the separated mRNA, removing clones reacting with DNA originated from the plant in which the synthesis of the flavonoid is not induced, and subsequently screening a DNA coding for the protein having the activity for transferring the glucose.
