A composition and method of retarding and ameliorating eye diseases and injuries is disclosed. The method comprises administering a synergistic mixture of certain carotenoids, including the carotenoid astaxanthin, with phospholipid and triglyceride bound EPA and DHA derived from omega choline, in which said omega choline contains at least 30% total phospholipids, in a therapeutically effective amount to prevent, retard or treat eye central nervous system diseases or injuries, such as age-related macular degeneration, cataract, dry eye syndrome due to glandular inflammation and other central nervous system degenerative diseases, photic injury, ischemic diseases, and inflammatory diseases.안구 질환 및 손상을 지연 및 개선하기 위한 조성물 및 방법이 제공된다. 본 방법은 카로티노이드 아스타잔틴을 포함한 특정 카로티노이드들과 오메가 콜린에서 유래한 인지질 및 트리글리세라이드 결합된 EPA 및 DHA의 상승작용성 혼합물(상기 오메가 콜린은 15% 이상의 총 인지질을 함유함)을 안구 및 중추 신경계 질환 또는 손상, 예컨대 노인성 황반 변성, 백내장, 선내 염증(glandular inflammation) 및 기타 중추 신경계 퇴행성 질환으로 인한 안구 건조증, 광손상, 허혈성 질환, 및 염증성 질환을 예방, 지연 또는 치료하기 위한 치료적 유효량으로 투여하는 단계를 포함한다.
