A delivery tool 30 for attaching an access port assembly to bodily tissue, the access port assembly including deployable fasteners and an access port 10 and a generally central axis. The tool 30 comprises a handle 90 having a generally longitudinal axis, a delivery head 96 at a distal end of the handle 90 and structured to engage an access port assembly having deployable fasteners, and an activation mechanism for enabling deployment of the fasteners when the delivery head 96 is so engaged with the access port assembly. The delivery tool 30 is configured such that the longitudinal axis of the handle 90 is spaced apart from the generally central axis of the access port 10 when the delivery tool 30 is so engaged with the access port assembly. The activation mechanism of the tool 30 comprises a cable mechanism of two opposingly movable cables 102 extending from a proximal end of the tool 30 along the tool handle 90 to the delivery head 96.
