An imaging agent for cells which produces an intracellular imaging signal proportional to the amount of hCE-1 in the cells independently of the amount of hCE-2 and/or hCE-3 in the cells, said imaging agent being a covalent conjugate of (a) an imaging agent and (b) an alpha mono- or di-substituted amino acid ester, wherein (a) is directly linked to (b), or (a) is indirectly linked to (b) by a linker radical, and wherein said direct or indirect linkage is via the amino group of (b), and wherein the amino group is not directly linked to a carbonyl group, and wherein the said alpha mono- or di-substituted amino acid ester part is selectively hydrolysable to the corresponding carboxylic acid part by the intracellular carboxylesterase enzyme hCE-1 relative to the intracellular enzymes hCE-2 or hCE-3.La presente invención se refiere a un agente para la formación de imágenes para las células que produce una señal para formar imágenes intracelulares, proporcional a la cantidad de hCE-1 en las células independientemente de la cantidad de la hCE-2 y/o hCE-3 en las células, el agente para la formación de imágenes es un conjugado covalente de (a) un agente para la formación de imágenes y (b) un éster de alfa aminoácido, mono o di-sustituido, en donde (a) está enlazado directamente a (b), o (a) está enlazado indirectamente a (b) por un radical enlazador, y en donde el enlace directo o indirecto es por medio del grupo amino de (b), y en donde el grupo amino no está enlazado directamente a un grupo carbonilo, y en donde la parte del éster del alfa aminoácido, mono o di-sustituido, es hidrolizable selectivamente a la parte del ácido carboxílico correspondiente por la enzima de carboxilesterasa intracelular hCE-1 con relación a las enzimas intracelulares hCE-2 o hCE-3.
