The present invention relates to a high flow rate respiratory treatment apparatus comprising a flow generator (104) to produce a high flow of breathable gas through a patient interface at a first flow rate whereby the patient interface permits significant leak venting of the gas at a patient's nares (108), a humidifier (112) in a path of the flow to humidify the breathable gas at a first humidity level, a processor (120) configured to control automatic adjustments to the first flow rate of the flow generator and to control automatic adjustments to a setting of the first humidity level, wherein the processor (120) is configured to adjust the first flow rate in response to the processor detecting one or more incidents of one or more of: partial obstruction, apnea and snoring.
