PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shaving device that is efficient, cost effective, and safe for home use.SOLUTION: The device includes a handle portion 102 and a shaving portion. The handle portion includes a power source 108 and a laser light source 110. The laser light source is configured to generate laser light having a wavelength selected to target a predetermined chromophore to effectively cut a hair shaft. The shaving portion includes a support 140 and a single fiber optic 104 supported by the support. The fiber optic has a proximal end 104a, a distal end 104b, an outer wall, and a cutting region positioned toward the distal end and extending along a portion of a side wall. The fiber optic receives the laser light from the laser light source at the proximal end, conducts the laser light from the proximal end toward the distal end, and emits the light out of the cutting region and toward hair when the cutting region is brought in contact with the hair.
