The present invention relates to a device (20) for providing haptic effects on a haptic surface. To enable a simple but accurate determination of the position, orientation and/or pose of an object positioned on the haptic surface the proposed device comprises a haptic surface (22), a number of haptic actuators (24) provided in or close to the haptic surface, a control means (26) for controlling said haptic actuators to provide a haptic effect in their proximity on the haptic surface, a sensing means (28) for sensing the actuator current and/or actuator voltage per actuator or group of actuators, and a processing means (30) for processing the sensed actuator current signals and/or actuator voltage signals by separately determining a characteristic of said actuator current signals and/or actuator voltage signals and generating pressure indications from the determined characteristic, said pressure indications indicating the amount of pressure at the respective actuator or group of actuators.Linvention concerne un dispositif (20) pour produire des effets haptiques sur une surface haptique.
