The present invention relates to a composition for inhibiting adipocyte differentiation comprising a bromophenol compound (bromophenol) as an active ingredient, a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating obesity, and a composition for improving or preventing obesity. The composition may activate the AMP-activated protein kinase by inhibiting the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ (PPARγ) activity and consequently have an anti-obesity effect.본 발명은 브로모페놀(bromophenol) 화합물을 유효성분으로 포함하는 지방세포분화 억제용 조성물, 비만의 예방 또는 치료용 약학적 조성물, 및 비만의 개선 또는 예방용 건강기능식품용 조성물에 관한 것으로, 상기 조성물은 퍼옥시좀 증식체 활성화 수용체 감마(peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ； PPARγ) 활성을 억제함으로써 AMP-활성 단백질 인산화효소를 활성화하여 결론적으로는 항비만 효과를 나타낼 수 있다.
