A device for ablating cardiac tissue includes a plurality of ablation elementssubstantially aligned along a common axis and adjustable between first and secondpredetermined positions. In the first predetermined position, the pluralityof ablation elements form a curved contact surface. In the second predeterminedposition, the plurality of ablation elements form a substantially straightinsertion configuration. At least one hinge (27) may connect adjacent ones ofthe plurality of ablation elements (26). Each of the plurality of ablation elementsmay be located within a housing (29), which may have at least a portion of a hingeintegrally formed therewith to connect adjacent ablation elements. Alternatively,a strand of superelastic material (38), such as a Nitinol wire, may interconnectablation elements. The superelastic material may bias the plurality of ablationelements into at least one of the first and second predetermined positions.
