Described is a monoclonal antibody against human alpha-synuclein and its use in the treatment of Parkinson's disease. This antibody specifically binds to human α-synuclein. The antibodies provided herein include immunoglobulin molecules, such as IgG antibodies, as well as antibody fragments and single domain (VH) antibodies. Further, compositions comprising antibodies that bind to, eg, specifically bind to α-synuclein, nucleic acid molecules that encode these antibodies, expression vectors that include nucleic acid molecules, and isolated host cells that express the nucleic acid molecules are provided.
