PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display element and a manufacturing method for a liquid crystal display device, which are more practical by solving the problem in performance and process caused when blue phase liquid crystal is used as a liquid crystal material.SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display device comprises a first substrate (12) and a second substrate (13) disposed to face each other, and liquid crystal (1) sealed between the first substrate (12) and the second substrate (13). A liquid crystal material including blue phase liquid crystal (1) is used as the liquid crystal. The liquid crystal display device further comprises a microhole structure layer (21) in which microholes each serving as a small room are spatially connected to each other three-dimensionally to form a large space and which is inserted between the first substrate (12) and the second substrate (13). The blue phase liquid crystal (1) is sealed in each of the microholes provided in the microhole structure layer (21).
