A method of vacuum-pumping a cremation urn comprises: first placing bone ashes into an inner urn then placing the inner urn containing bone ashes into an outer urn then placing the outer urn in which the inner urn and bone ashes are contained in a container having a vacuum valve and vacuum-pumping the container finally removing the outer urn in which the inner urn and bone ashes are contained from the container and filling the seams of the outer urn with sealing material to complete the vacuum-pumping operation. Another embodiment comprises: placing a vacuum valve on the outer urn, and then placing the inner urn containing bone ashes in an outer urn and directly vacuum-pumping the outer urn, and finally filling the seams of the outer urn with sealing material to complete the vacuum-pumping operation.
