A needle shield system includes a needle (28), an inner tube (24), a clip (26)within the inner tube, an outer tube(22), and/or a housing. A method of shielding a needle may include housing aportion of a needle within a clip, housing the clipwithin an inner tube, housing the inner tube within an outer tube, housing theouter tube within a housing, interlocking the outertube and the housing, withdrawing the needle from the clip, trapping a tip ofthe needle between the clip and the inner tube,par-tially withdrawing the inner tube from the outer tube, and/or releasingthe outer tube and the housing from each other.
