Microcatheter apparatus (10) is disclosed which comprises a microcatheter shaft (60) defining a microcatheter lumen (64) and having a radiopaque distal tip (72)； a hub (20) attached to a proximal end (62) of the microcatheter shaft； and a strain relief sleeve (80) extending distally from the hub along the microcatheter shaft. The hub comprises a first port (34) to admit a pressure wire to the microcatheter lumen through the hub, and a second port (30) for fluid connection to the microcatheter lumen, and an axial lumen (38) in fluid communication with the microcatheter lumen. The axial lumen comprises a distal end section (42) having a diameter substantially equal to the diameter of the microcatheter lumen, a proximal section having a larger diameter, and a tapered section (40) therebetween.
