A medical image formation apparatus (100) includes laser emitting elements (1) - (7) which emit laser light rays different in wavelength, an image selection unit (9) to select a kind of observation image, a light source control unit (8) which controls the lighting of the laser emitting elements (1) - (7) in accordance with an observation mode corresponding to a combination of the selected observation images, an imaging unit (18) which images return light ray of the laser light ray from an observation target and then outputs the return light ray as an image signal, and an image signal processing circuit (24) which forms the observation images from the image signal from the imaging unit. The light source control unit (8) turns on at least one of the laser emitting element (1) to (7) when the kind of selected observation image is a first observation image, and turns on at least one of the laser emitting elements in case where the first observation image is selected when the kind of selected observation image is a second observation image.
